Building the Tallest Skyscraper In The World

Construction Financed By Saudi Royal Family.

If completed, the Kingdom Tower will be the tallest building in the world, and shatter records for the tallest building ever completed. Similar buildings like the Burj Khalifa only reach the 2,700 foot mark, which is a little over half the height of the proposed Kingdom Tower and Kingdom Center complex in the city of Jeddah. This building will require the most advanced heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems in any structure in the world, and problems like pumping running water up a mile of vertical space will have to be solved. Additionally, this tower will have to have protection against the immense leverage generated when a wind or sand storm pushes against one side of the building. People in the highest parts of the building will get seasick unless a rigid structure is in place with compensators for the natural sway that people in much lower skyscrapers (kind of an oxymoron, but applicable in this case) have complained about. The architects for the project, announced in March of 2010, will be the agency of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Kingdom Holdings, the finance company, has indicated more recently that the project is under way. Though it was announced in 2007, there were delays related to the global economic crisis and a drop in the price of oil, but now that the price of petroleum products has increased, it looks like there may be more money available to finance the project, which could cost 17 Billion US Dollars or more..

Notes and Special Information

Special note: This tower will certainly make Jeddah into a world-class tourist destination.
